Internship: Deformable Bricks for End-Users to Explore Shape-Changing Interfaces

Background

Shape-changing interfaces are increasingly investigated and implemented in the research community. Recent work [1, 2] introduces toolkits to enable end-users to implement shape-changing interfaces by themselves. However, the types of the shape-changes of the recent work are limited to linear movement and do not support various shape change vocabularies such as porosity [3].

In this research project, we have two goals: 1) implementing deformable modules based on Morphees+ features [3] and 2) exploring applications of shape-changing interfaces using the modules in a user-elicitation study, where participants will build low-fidelity prototypes for the applications by using the built modules.
