Postdoc : Design notations of Digital Behavior Change Interactive Systems

Behavior change support interactive systems offer user interaction designed helping a user to change or adopt new behaviors. As part of this post-doctoral project, we will focus on the interaction design of Digital Behavior Change Intervention systems (DBCI). To produce such an interactive system, it is common practice to describe and specify the main aspects of the system, including human-machine interaction, at an early stage of the design cycle. This part of the design activity is highly multi-disciplinary, as it involves a variety of expertise, including that of the computer scientist, but also that of other experts such as cognitive psychologists. The problem of interaction design for DBCIs is twofold. On the one hand, their development is still ad hoc, due to the lack of suitable design tools. On the other hand, the computer scientist has to mobilize knowledge in certain fields of psychology (e.g. social psychology, psychology of learning) to choose the right behavior change model, and mastering this is complex. No language or notation is suitable for specifying interaction to support a change model.

The post-doc will study notations and models for designing DBCI systems, propose an innovative notation or language for designing a DBCI for HCI designers, tool the notation or language using a low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototype (innovative application or interaction technique), conduct experimental evaluations to validate the contributions.

The post-doc will also be involved in the ANR ePsyCHI project and contribute to its progress.
